In addition to our quantitative lending criteria, the attainment of a RISE (which is needed for funding approval) indicates that the filmmaker or content developer has offered content that is consistent with RII’s vision. The RISE is granted on the basis of the redemptive value of the story line, the balanced portrayal of minorities and women in the story, casting diversity, employment diversity and outreach efforts designed to provide mentoring and training opportunities to aspiring minority and women filmmakers or content developers.

The RISE is granted through an assessment process that was developed by RII. The review process is coordinated through an Advisory Committee, selected by the Governing Board. This committee is comprised of seasoned film and media professionals who have proven expertise in feature film and content development, distribution, financing, marketing, production, and programming. The Advisory Committee will also have at its disposal access to review commentary and opinion input from a diverse network of readily available reviewers including but not limited to educators, religious organizations, professional organizations, social rights entities, selected bloggers and media personalities and movie goers representing various niche markets. Reel Image has established strategic alliances and relationships with an extensive network of individuals and organizations representing various minority groups and organizations to assist in facilitating this purpose.

After reviewing a project(s), the Advisory Committee makes a recommendation to the Governing Board of RII regarding the merits of a project and its eligibility for the granting of a RISE. The Governing Board of RII will weigh heavily, the recommendation(s) of the Advisory Committee regarding the granting of a RISE for a particular project.

However, the final approval for the granting of a RISE lies solely with the Governing Board of Reel Image, Inc.

RISE approval and designation is a mandatory requirement for all funding approvals, but the issuance of the RISE does not guarantee funding approval. The attainment of a RISE is separate and necessary for ultimate funding approval but has no bearing on quantitative underwriting criteria.
